Simpler Recycling is a reform to the recycling system. It ends confusion over what can and cannot be recycled in different parts of the country.

What is Simpler Recycling?

As of 31st March 2025, it is now law for all businesses, charities and public sector organisations in England with 10+ employees (including healthcare establishments and academic institutions) to sort their waste for recycling.

To comply with Simpler Recycling requirements, waste must be sorted into four streams:
• Residual (non-recyclable) waste
• Food waste (mixed with garden waste if appropriate)
• Paper and card
• All other dry recyclable materials (plastic, metal, glass)
